Things to consider:
·
Chessies tend to
bond very closely with the owner and the family. It can be difficult
to find a new home for an older dog especially one that was not
trained. Bringing any dog into your life is a big move please be
sure that this is the right step for your family.
·
Training takes time and you have to be
consistent. There are a lot of books and articles on this subject
that we highly recommend reading before you bring your puppy home.
·
Have a plan on how you are going to
train and take care of the pup before it comes home. (Don’t forget
Christmas at the in laws back east etc…)
·
Ask a lot of questions! Make sure that
you are completely familiar with the typical characteristics of the
breed you choose. Remember everyone has different criteria as to
what is important to them in the purchase of a puppy and the breeder
will not know yours if you do not share it.
·
Pure bred dogs are typically bred for a
purpose - be sure that you are familiar with this breeds history.
·
Make sure you know what the adult
version of this dog looks like. You will live with it a lot longer
than the cute little one that you take home.
